BASE® gearboxes are made of spheroidal cast iron with a broached steel shaft in various sizes and different gear reduction ratios. The input flange is sized to accommodate electric motors of various sizes depending on the application, the output flange is sized according to the diameter of the screw conveyor.
BASE® gearboxes mounted on the screw convey the motion from the electric motor to the spiral of the screw, transforming it to the desired rotation speed through the use of gears of different diameters. The most commonly used reduction ratios are 1/10, 1/7, 1/5. Essentially, the speed of the motor 1450 rpm is reduced in the case of the 1/5 ratio to 290 rpm and so on.
The end bearings are mounted on the opposite side of the gearbox and, if the gearbox is positioned at the bottom, the head will be of the type without thrust support; on the contrary, with the gearbox positioned at the top, the head will be of the type with thrust support and therefore with reinforced bearings and dust seal.
The sealing unit is mounted inside the screw conveyor in correspondence with the passage of the transmission shaft from the gearbox to the coil of the screw conveyor or of the shaft of the thrust support head to the coil of the screw conveyor and serves to prevent dust in general from coming into contact with the mechanical components.
